Second element for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel successfully immersed
Another tunnel element for the Fehmarnbelt link has now been installed on the seabed off the coast of Lolland.

The German Federal Minister of Transport, Patrick Schnieder, and his Danish counterpart Signe Munk jointly visited the construction sites of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel. It was both their first personal meeting and their first visit to the cross-border infrastructure project. Also present was Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Transport, Claus Ruhe Madsen.

The first tunnel element of a total of 89 that will connect Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn, has just been filled with 4,500 tonnes of ballast concrete. This marks an important milestone in the process leading up to the first immersion. Watch the video down below.

The special vessel that will immerse the large elements for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel is currently undergoing its final tests prior to approval for use by the Danish maritime authority. For the first time, a finished element was firmly connected to the immersion pontoons.
January 21 2026
The special vessel IVY, which is needed to immerse the tunnel elements, is currently undergoing final testing. At the same time, the tunnel trench is being prepared. The contractor expects the first tunnel element to be immersed into the Fehmarnbelt in spring 2026.
